ONV LAW Expands to New City, Aims EUR 1.5 mil Turnover in 2022

Jan 21, 2022 – Bucharest, Romania

BUCHAREST, January 21, 2022 - ONV LAW expands its Business Law and Public Procurement team and aims to reach EUR 1.5 million in turnover by the end of this year, amidst plans to expand its offices, including the opening of a new subsidiary in Iasi, Romania's largest North-Eastern city and one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas today.

“We decided to open in Iasi our first subsidiary due to its economic potential and our own legal projects in the city. According to the National Commission for Strategy and Forecast data, in 2024 Iasi will have a GDP of EUR 12,157 per capita, well above the national average. These are opportunities for businesses development in the area and an additional reason for us to expand our team in Iasi “, says Alina Bilan, ONV LAW partner.

Iasi metropolitan area is currently estimated at a rather modest 500,000 inhabitants, but the city is a strong university centre which has attracted many foreign investments in the past 10 years. Retailer Giant Amazon alone currently employs 3,000 people locally and plans further expansion. Google, IBM, Microsoft, Continental, Vodafone, Orange and Renault are also among top employers locally.

ONV LAW business law and public procurement teams have previously cooperated with attorney Giorgiana Barbieru, who now leads the new Iasi office. Ms Barbieru is an experienced lawyer in sectors such as real estate and construction, automotive and public administration. She joins ONV LAW as Senior Associate.

“We have solid reasons to estimate that the public procurement and infrastructure segments will increase considerably in the coming period, given the investments in recent years in Iasi and European Union's multiannual financial framework budget for 2021-2027 made available for Romania,” says Giorgiana Barbieru.

Giorgiana Barbieru has over 20 years of experience in complex advisory projects, litigation, commercial law, administrative litigation, family law, criminal law, and civil law. Throughout her career, she successfully represented large multinational and local infrastructure and construction companies, as well as state authorities in litigations regarding tax decisions, debt recovery or payments of damages and penalties.
