Kenneth Greene Named to N.C. Bar Association Legal Practice Hall of Fame

Jun 28, 2022 – Greensboro, North Carolina

Carruthers & Roth today announced that attorney Kenneth (Kenny) Greene, a member of the firm’s banking and finance practice, has been named to the North Carolina Bar Association’s Legal Practice Hall of Fame for 2022.

The Hall of Fame recognizes outstanding lawyers whose careers have served as models for other legal professionals by exhibiting the highest standards of ethics, professional competency, and service to both the bar and the community. Kenny was formally inducted on June 24th during the NCBA’s Annual Meeting in Winston-Salem, N.C.

During his nearly five decades at Carruthers & Roth, Greene’s practice has focused on a wide variety of transactional matters involving capital markets, including secured real estate, commercial and other asset-based loans, factoring, letters of credit, and mergers and acquisitions, as well as a broad spectrum of creditors’ rights and remedies including business bankruptcy.

“Kenny is a lawyer’s lawyer,” says Scott Dillon, director at Carruthers & Roth. “He is the most intellectually curious attorney I have ever known, as well as a tireless advocate and a tough but fair negotiator who looks for practical and efficient solutions for his clients. It is no surprise that attorneys from inside and outside our firm frequently look to him for advice and counsel.”

Over the years, Greene has developed a well-earned reputation as one of the most knowledgeable and skillful commercial finance and bankruptcy attorneys in the Southeast. He has been active in the North Carolina Bar Association and perhaps is the only person in the Bar’s history to receive two lifetime achievement awards from two different sections. In 2010 he was the recipient of the Business Law Section’s Distinguished Service Award and in 2019 he was the recipient of the Bankruptcy Section’s Lifetime Achievement Award. He has been instrumental in the Bar’s sponsorship of various modernization statutes that have been enacted by the North Carolina legislature, including the North Carolina Commercial Receivership Act, the Act Validating Reciprocal Attorneys’ Fees Provisions in North Carolina Business Contracts, the North Carolina Choice of Law and Forum in Business Contracts, and the Uniform Voidable Transactions Act.

Greene’s bar activities also include an active role in the Business Law Section of the American Bar Association and service on two of that section’s task forces in the drafting and publication of two model agreements, one a model account control agreement under Article 9 of the Uniform Commercial Code and the other a model intercreditor agreement between first and second lienholders. He has also authored the North Carolina chapters of two publications of the ABA, one on commercial lending and the other on the law of guaranties. He is also a past president and regent of the American College of Commercial Finance Lawyers.

At the community level, he is an active member of Greensboro’s Beth David Synagogue and a past trustee of Greensboro’s Temple Emanuel. He is a past trustee of Greensboro Day School, past board member of the Blumenthal Jewish Home for the Aged, and has provided pro bono legal representation to various non-profit organizations. He also is a past member of the Rotary Club of Greensboro.
